Welcome to Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

We are thrilled to welcome your children into Year 2.

Year 2 is an exciting year full of new challenges and experiences. We continue to have high expectations of the children as we facilitate their learning journey throughout Year 2.  We encourage the children to explore ways of being the very best they can be and help them to build a mental toolkit, enabling them to become resilient learners.  We look forward to working in partnership with you and your children as they move into the final year of Key Stage One.

The class teachers are Miss Batchelor and Mrs Payne and our support staff are Mrs Rebello, Mrs Ogborne, Mrs Marks and Mrs Stickley. On Tuesday afternoons, Mrs Ogborne teaches the year group PSHE and British Values and Mrs Rebello teaches music.

Please see our termly curriculum overviews for information about our topics, and to see what we have planned for each term.

Homework:

Homework reinforces the children’s learning and the expectations are as follows:

Maths homework will be sent home on Tuesday and is expected back by Thursday.

English/Topic homework will be sent home on Thursday and expected back by Monday.

Spellings based on the Year 2 phonics/spelling National Curriculum will be sent home on a weekly basis. The children will receive these on a Monday and will be tested the following Monday.

Reading:

The children are encouraged to change books on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  By changing books themselves, the children are taking responsibility for their learning.  It also gives them time to read their book more than once and to do any comprehension questions or activities as set out at the back of the book.  All children should be encouraged to read each night.

P.E/Games

We will be doing Indoor PE on Wednesdays and Outdoor Games on Fridays. Please make sure that your child has a fully labelled school games kit with the correct coloured House T-shirt. Children will need their PE kits in school every day.

Kind regards

Mrs Payne and Miss Batchelor
