Welcome to Year 4
We are delighted to welcome your children into their new year group and look forward to working in partnership with you all. We hope you have all enjoyed the summer holidays and are looking forward to returning to the new academic year well rested and with renewed enthusiasm.
We have posted a curriculum overview document on the website so that you may take a closer look at what we have planned for this term’s curriculum. Hard copies have also been sent home with your children, which you may want to stick on the fridge! Also, further down this page you will find a welcome letter from the Year 4 team with some additional information you may require.
Over and above work in school, we do require that children reinforce their learning through homework and the expectations are as follows:
All homework is currently under review and we will be contacting parents once the working party have met.
Spellings: Given out on Monday and the expectation is that your children spend some time learning the spelling pattern which will be located at the top of the sheet. The children will be tested on 10 words on Friday.
Reading: Children are expected to read every night and record what has been read (as well as any difficult words they come across) in their Reading Records. As you all know it is a highly enjoyable experience to share in the joy of reading with your children so please discuss story outlines and ask them questions about what they have read.
Maths Homework: Given out on Tuesday to be completed and returned to school by Thursday.
Topic: This will continue to be given via the website and a hard copy sent home with children at the start of this half term in the form of a grid. These tasks are designed to be cross curricular. Homework must be handed in by the date stated on the grid.
PE and Games: PE will be on Thursdays and outdoor games on Mondays so we ask that children have their PE kits in school which should consist of: House Colour T shirts, shorts and plimsolls plus training shoes. As the term progresses warm outdoor tracksuit trousers and tops are recommended.
Details of swimming and Forest school will follow as will information on forthcoming trips.
If you have any concerns or feel the need to speak to us, please make an appointment by emailing the school office.
